STOP GIVING COAL AS AID
BUILDING NEW COAL PLANTS WILL
THREATEN LOCAL PEOPLE AND OUR PLANET
While people in Indramayu, Indonesia already suffer from severe health and social problems with an existing coal plant, building a new plant is set to make it worse.
The Government of Japan, through its development assistance agency JICA (the Japan International Cooperation Agency) is already spending a lot of money on this project.
Even though the construction of the plant has not started yet, it is expected to start next year and JICA is expected to provide more loan for it.
People in Indramayu have been fighting against the project to protect their livelihood for more than 4 years since the project was proposed.
Farmers have been falsely accused and arrested just because they raised their opposing voices to the project.
People will lose their precious land and sea that sustained their living.
Air pollution will also threaten people’s lives, with flying ash and all the pollutants that will be emitted from the plant. The plant will not use the BAT (best available technologies) that have been installed in most of the coal plants in Japan.
